Our Confederate In the Attic

Tuesday, January 13, 2009, 7:40 a.m.

I was standing in the lobby in anticipation of any guests that might want to check out.  I heard several footsteps in the attic directly above my head in the lobby area.  They started from the middle of the ceiling and stopped after a few steps.

I immediately checked to make sure one of the maintenance men was not up in the attic getting supplies.  No one was there.

If you are wondering why I surmise this is a Confederate soldier that walks around our attic, the reason is because over the years we have had several people with psychic abilities walk into our lobby.  One of the first things they tell us is that we have a Confederate soldier from Mississippi "hanging around" in our attic.

On the first day of the Battle of Gettysburg, the 2nd and 42nd Mississippi, along with the 55th North Carolina infantry regiments, were positioned in the railroad cut and heavily engaged in action against the 6th Wisconsin infantry regiment.  The 6th Wisconsin prevailed in battle, taking the position, at a great loss in lives on both sides.

Two of our suites and one wing sit within feet of this desperate fight.  Our main office is also a short distance away from the scene of this carnage.  The railroad cut runs the entire length of our hotel property.

Over the years, I have used my digital recorder to speak with our Confederate in the attic.  He is a very talkative fellow!
