Ghosts Turning on Lights and Unlocking Doors!

Monday, August 4, 2008, 1:08 a.m.

The following was relayed to me, in person, by my co-worker and fellow night auditor:

Courtney was in the process of walking through the breakfast prep room when she noticed that the light in the laundry room was turned on.  She told me that she had purposely turned it off one-half hour before.

The lobby at the hotel is always closed and locked at midnight.  However, a night auditor is always on duty from midnight until 7:00 a.m., when we unlocked the lobby door, in case a guest requires assistance, in case of an emergency, for early check outs and/or late check ins.

At 5:45 a.m., Courtney went to retrieve the newspapers that are dropped off each morning outside the front door.  She discovered, much to her shock, that the front door was unlocked.

At 6:30 a.m., Courtney went into the laundry room where we have large freezers and refrigerators to pick up some items to set out for breakfast.  On her way back from one of the freezers, she happened to glance over and saw that the backdoor was unlocked.  She had locked it at 7:10 p.m. on the previous evening.

Courtney stopped by the hotel on an evening when I was working to tell me about these occurrences because she was so concerned and quite unnerved.  I walked with Courtney to each location in the building where we have doors which lead to the outside and kindly asked the soldier spirits NOT to unlock anymore doors at night.  I explained to them that we need to be safe and we are counting on them to protect us.  I told Courtney to do this each evening when she is locking the doors.  Hopefully, we will have no more incidents of this nature!
